first off, didn't know jogging at sugarhouse park meant hiking at millcreek canyon. thanks, Cherie! haha.
it was a gorgeous day. Cherie lives like 2 seconds from millcreek canyon. love it how the mountains are so close!
an hour hike turned into like a 4 hour hike, give or take. we weren't sure where we were going. how 'bout grandeur peak?? sure...
we were not prepared for this hike at all. no food. little water. and it was so hot out. smart! we didn't know what to expect. and we certainly didn't know where the peak was. even smarter. haha.
every now and then we'd stop and ask ourselves, should we just turn around? and everytime, we were so determined to reach the end, we're almost there, we've been hiking for forever! haha. we'd take pix here and there and the view looked pretty darn similar everytime. so it didn't feel like we were gonna reach that peak anytime soon...
ya feel us? lol.
we finally reached this rocky area and said eff it, we're good. hahaha.
we saw some dude RUNNING the trail and asked him how far we were from the top and he goes, oh, you're well over half way. and he said him and his wife hiked slowly and it took them 4.5 hours roundtrip. we weren't convinced. haha. we decided to head back down. it was crazy cuz we watched him running. and could see him in his white tee in the trees from afar. it looked like he was going hella fast.
and he was. we got to the bottom in maybe an hour and we were checking out the map to see where we had gone and how much farther we needed to go. Cherie goes, watch he's probably gonna come running past us. and whatta ya know, there he goes. lol. can you say smashing? geez.
it was a fun and unexpected hike to say the least. :-) along the way and back, we saw some wildlife and wild flowers. Cherie even saved a butterfly. way to do your part, Cherie! :-)

poor butterfly got stuck in the water

not to worry, Cherie to save the day!
all better! can butterflies fly when they're missing legs? hope so!

can you see the snake?

thumbs up. shoulda been deuces. ;-) haha!

we stopped to take a breather and...

cool our waters in the stream

can you see the lizard?

how about now?
