so, i got off work today at 330pm. came home cuz i had to take care of some stuff. i hadn't been home in a few days (bouta post about later. hehe). but then, i thought to myself, "why waste such a beautiful day at home?" so, i hit up my friend, amber, to see what she was up to. she didn't have plans. i didn't have plans. so i suggested we hit up temple square and the library cuz i hadn't been to either spot yet. we ended up meeting up at temple square around 7pm.
i parked on north temple (side note: the reason the street is called north temple is cuz it's on the north side of the temple. all the streets revolve around the temple.). so i walked in through the north entrance, obviously. along the center of the walkway were beds of beautiful flowers. to the right was the north visitor center. to the left was the temple. i was supposed to meet up with amber and eric at a pond, but i got caught up taking pictures of the temple and ended up walking to the south entrance. haha. if you were to exit, to the left was the south visitor center and to the right was a chapel with a water fountain in front. i had to check out the map of the square to figure out where to go. it's cool cuz at both entrances, there's a touch screen map of the square. i saw where the pond was and started walking that way but on my way there, i saw another water fountain and stopped to take a picture. =) the shape of it caught my attention cuz it reminded me of this plastic blue tray i made in either middle school or high school.
i kinda thought i wasn't going the right way cuz there were all these walkways but i remembered the map showed the pond on the other side of the temple so i headed that way and finally made it there. eric and amber were sitting on the steps on the temple side of the pond. we walked around it so i could take the following pix...
the temple is surrounded by a wrought iron gate with different bright colored flowers, trees and lawn with really green grass. we walked through the gate on the west side of the temple. a gentleman in a suit and top hat approached us. he could probably tell i wasn't from around here cuz i was taking pictures, being hella touristy. haha. he asked where we were from. my thoughts and from the look on amber's face, "walk away, you're gonna get stuck talking to him, he's gonna try to convert you!!!" =/ mean, i know! but i had been warned: "DON'T GET CONVERTED!" we ended up chatting with him for a lil bit anyways, i'm not that mean. at first, i told him i was from salt lake city, which i am, but then amber had to tell him i was from washington. so, i told him i was from seattle. =) he didn't ask or mention anything about religion while i was standing there. he was being friendly. he did have a name tag though but i didn't read what it said. i just really wanted to take pix of the temple. amber disappeared so i walked away to take more pix, which left eric to chat with him. hehe. who knows what they talked about. when eric finally got away, we walked completely around the temple and i took more pix. amber said she had gotten married there and had taken wedding pictures around the temple. great place to take pix. the temple is an amazing piece of architecture. the curves, the lines and some of the detail, i wish i had an actual camera to take better pix. i'll have to go back for that...as we walked out of the gate at the northeast side of the temple, we saw a big tourist group. we could tell cuz the lady leading the way had a name tag and was holding a highlighter green flag on a white plastic stick with a bunch of people walking behind her with cameras and name tags. it seemed like forever for them to pass by. we were gonna play frogger but decided not to. =P we wanted to get through to walk towards the intriguing water fountain i had seen earlier. i took another photo of the fountain with the south visitor center included. through the clear glass windows of the visitor center, i could see a small, glass replica of the temple. it was pretty detailed. we walked past the chapel and were gonna go into the tabernacle but the mormon tabernacle choir was having rehearsal. so we just peeked through the windows. we musta been kinda loud cuz this man standing inside turned around to look at us. amber and eric ducked. by mid-duck, he had already seen me. oops. so, we scurried away giggling like kids. =)
to be continued....
