8.20.12: first ride of the summer

finally took my bike out for a spin. I've been slackin' cuz the last time I was gonna take it out, I was pumping up the tire and I accidentally put a hole in it. don't ask me how. I don't really know myself. haha. last night I decided to finally change the flat. I've never changed a flat so I YouTube'd it. :-) the tube size was bigger than the stock tube but it fit so I decided to just leave it and see how it went. scurry. :-\

I was only gonna go a couple miles to test out the tire but after about a mile, it seemed fine, so I just kept on going. plus I'm sure there are a few peeps I coulda called just in case it didn't work out. haha.

I decided to head to the legacy parkway trail going south towards west Bountiful. hey, why not?! it was a nice, sunny day. I took main street to park lane, past the Farmington station, where the trail starts. I was actually gonna see how long it would take to get to work but I didn't have enough water nor did I bring any money to buy any. and it was in the 80s. smart!

legacy parkway trail

I made it about 10 miles from home, just past Parrish lane in Centerville. I took a rest in a tunnel where the legacy parkway highway goes over the trail. shade, yes! chilled for a moment. looked at my bottle of water, over a half way gone. hmm, better head back.

I mapped out a different route that took me on a couple more trails: the Farmington creek trail and the Denver and rio grande western rail trail. neither were very scenic. although, the latter had some gorgeous houses! sorry, no photos...

view to the east of the rail trail

so funny story. I was cruising along and somebody's yard sprinkler was hittin' the trail. at first I avoided it. but then I thought to myself, it's hella hot out, my water is not cold or refreshing at all. I'm gonna turn around and ride through it. well, in my attempt to turn around, I thought I'd be able to stay on the trail. nope! tire just barely went off the trail right over some pebbles and down I went. haha. oh my poor, expensive a$$ bike, thank goodness there was lil to no damage. maybe a lil scratch on the peddle and black gravel marks on the handle bar tape. and best of all, no self inflicted injuries. hahaha. :-) as I got up, I looked around to make sure no one saw my clumsiness. nobody, yes! lol. headed back down the trail and caught a nice refreshing splash. hehe. felt great, especially with the breeze blowing against the water on my skin. :-)

the rest of the ride was pretty uneventful. just hot! and hilly. no fun! legs are killin' right now. haha.

a lil greenery :-)

the ride up the street to the pad was the worst. my legs were dying!

oh when I got home, the door was locked. locked out and dying for some refreshing water! not a great combo! I had left it unlocked so I didn't bring any keys. smart cookie, aren't I?? :-P the roomies musta locked it thinking I was home. :-\ luckily, they weren't too far away. :-)

all in all, nice ride! I believe I rode about 19 miles. :-) looking forward to more bike rides while summer is still here...

btw, check out my stats on the ride back. I only thought about downloading this app after I headed back. it's pretty cool!
